Professor

Brian enjoyed a long career as a computer science professor at the University of Calgary and later joined at the University of Victoria as a Canada Research Chair. He has pioneered new algorithms in the field of computer graphics and animation as well as stylistic rendering. He has an Erdős number of two.

Actor

In his first part at age four as Adam, Brian fought Eve for the apple. He spent four wonderful years acting with the Rocky Mountain Shakespeare Company and has acted and directed for the Banff Centre, and town of Banff. He also appeared (as a child) in a Ken Russel film, giving him a Bacon number of three, making him one of a very few Erdős-Bacon fives on the planet.

Climber

Falling out of a tree as a child did not put Brian off climbing. With many big wall and alpine adventures to his credit, Brian has pioneered a new route on Cerro Torre in Patagonia, as well as early ascents of big walls in Norway and Yosemite. He continues to find new rock climbs in Canada.

Author

Despite rumours to the contrary, Brian was not raised by wolves in the wilderness, but enjoyed a peaceful London childhood. Growing up with Nelson’s column and the old clipper, Cutty Sark, to inspire him, in the Second Gate series, he writes a time travelling collection of sea faring adventures set during the Napoleonic wars.
